Our thoughts happen so quickly that it may seem we're not in control of them. But we are — or we should be.
When we react too quickly to circumstances, we often make things worse: we lash out in anger, we blame, we accuse. None of those reactions is likely to solve the problem, but all of them can make us feel worse when we've calmed down.
Modern Emotional Health comes from slowing down our responses, observing ourselves, then acting in a way that serves us instead of shames us. And, I would argue, that's when we are truly free and alive.
